Dr. Gillian and his team implanted the first LINX device in the DMV in 2013. Dr. Gillian has been training other surgeons in this technique since 2015. By 2018 we were one of the top 5 programs in the USA. Dr. Gillian’s team was the busiest center in the world for LINX implants in 2022 and passed the 750th implant mark in October 2024. We are currently considered to be one of the top 5 centers in the world for this procedure. Our expertise and comfort with all aspects of this procedure cannot be matched in the region.
LINX is a small implant comprised of interlinked titanium beads with magnetic cores. The magnetic attraction between the beads augments the existing esophageal sphincter’s barrier function to prevent reflux. The device is implanted using a standard minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure and for many patients it is an alternative to the more anatomically disruptive fundoplication, commonly used in surgical anti-reflux procedures. The LINX Reflux Management System is indicated for those patients diagnosed with GERD as defined by abnormal pH testing, and who continue to have chronic GERD symptoms despite maximum medical therapy for the treatment of reflux.
The surgical literature demonstrates elimination of regurgitation and heartburn symptoms in nearly all patients after this procedure. Most patients will be able to completely stop their reflux medications. Some patients with Barrett’s esophagitis see regression of their disease. We have even seen LINX control symptoms in patients dealing with disabling reflux after Bariatric surgery when nothing else is working.
